DO YOU NEED A JUUL TEEN INJURY LAWYER?
What is a JUUL?

The Facts About JUUL Vaping & E-Cigarettes

JUUL is a brand of e-cigarette, an electronic nicotine delivery system that vaporizes a liquid for inhalation. This process is also known as vaping. The liquid used is contained in replaceable cartridges called pods, which come in a variety of flavors. JUUL is known for its USB (flash drive) shape, which makes it easy to conceal and use in public places like schools.

The liquid used in JUUL pods contain nicotine salts from tobacco leaves. When the vapor from the JUUL is inhaled, nicotine is then absorbed at the same rate as a regular cigarette. With JUUL, the vapor can be smoother than the harsh irritants associated with regular cigarettes, leading the smoker to think it’s a healthier alternative. This is not the case at all and with nearly double the amount of nicotine concentrate of other e-cigarettes on the market, JUUL presents a significantly increased risk of addiction.

So what’s the problem here? After all, surely helping adults to quit smoking is positive? Well, the truth is that JUUL has attained this lion share because they have created an entirely new set of customers for their products. They have developed a generation of nicotine addicts through their aggressive social media campaigns and marketing efforts.

With an easily disguisable and clever product design, combined with a number of other strategies, they have been targeting children and teenagers across the United States. This is extremely worrying, as a lot of youngsters are being negatively impacted by JUUL.

What Chemicals Are in a JUUL?

The Dangerous Effects of Nicotine

Before we can take a look at the negative impact that JUUL products have had on the younger generation, it is first important to understand the dangers of JUUL vaping. Therefore, we need to look at the chemicals that are contained in their products. A JUUL cartridge contains liquid that is made up of benzoic acid, flavoring, propylene glycol, glycerol, and 40 mg of nicotine. When compared with the other vaping devices that are on the market today, JUUL contains a very high level of nicotine. In fact a JUUL contains more than twice the concentration of nicotine, making the addiction risk very high. This is not the only negative impact that is associated with nicotine. While it is highly addictive, there has also been a plethora of scientific research showing that nicotine impairs lung development and brain development if it is utilized during adolescence.

Plus, it is also worth pointing out that it is not just the nicotine that is bad in JUUL products. While these vaping products do not contain a lot of the bad stuff that you would find in tobacco, there are other bad things in them. In fact, 42 additional chemicals, aside from the five main vape liquid ingredients, have been identified in the vapor. A number of these different chemicals are known carcinogens. For example, when compared with other vaping products out there, JUUL products contain a higher amount of benzoic acid. This is worrying because benzoic acid is known to cause vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, sore throat, and coughs if someone has constant exposure to it, which will certainly be the case if you are using JUUL vape products.

HOW IS JUUL TARGETING CHILDREN AND TEENS?

How JUUL Appeals to the Younger Market

Unfortunately, the demographic that seems to be most susceptible to this false advertising is teenagers. Until recently, nicotine use among teens had been on a steady decline since the mid-1990s. But with the introduction of JUUL Vapes and other E-cigarettes, nicotine use is once again on the rise among teens.

Marketing to Teens

In just one year, e-cigarette use saw a 78% increase in usage among high schoolers and a 48% increase among middle schoolers. Recent research shows how JUUL has targeted children and teens since its launch, with one study showing over half of the company’s social media posts geared toward teens and another study citing their marketing as “youth-oriented.” To further entice teens, JUUL also produces the pods in various flavors that are known to be very appealing to teens such as mango, fruit, and mint.

JUUL Under Investigation

An additional concerning factor in JUUL’s advertising is the lack of information regarding the nicotine it contains. A study published in Tobacco Control found that 63% of JUUL users between 15-24 didn’t know the product always contains nicotine. As a result of their tactics, JUUL is currently under federal investigation. Through messaging, branding choices and a lack of information as to the dangers of use, JUUL has clearly targeted children and teens.

What Can You Do About It?

More and more lawsuits are being filed against JUUL due to their aggressive marketing tactics geared towards appealing to a younger target audience. If you or your minor child have been impacted because of this, there is a possibility that you could be entitled to compensation. This includes cases relating to the use of JUUL vaping devices and behavior problems, mental health, suicide, respiratory and lung problems, heart problems, heart attacks, strokes, seizures, nicotine poisoning, young adult and adolescent addiction, and more. If you or your loved one has developed a nicotine addiction or suffered other harm after using a Juul vaporizer prior to turning 18, we want to hear from you!

FAQ's

Has Juul paid any penalties or damages in lawsuits to date?

Major legal actions against Juul have only begun in recent months, so we have not yet begun to see verdicts or settlements in those cases.

How addictive is a Juul device?

Since its beginning, Juul has proudly advertised its Juul vapor pods as the most nicotine-heavy e-cigarette pods on the market. One Juul pod is equivalent to the nicotine content of an entire pack of regular cigarettes.

The process of becoming addicted to nicotine is inexact, and may vary from person to person. But especially for young people, who are more susceptible to chemical addictions than adults in general, it would be fair to describe Juul vaping as “extremely addictive.”

What about other kinds of damage besides nicotine addiction?

Taylor Martino fights for the people whenever a corporation or manufacturer fails to keep products sold to the public safe. There have been multiple incidents of e-cigarettes exploding or catching on fire and causing injury, as well as scores of reports of cancer or other lung-related illnesses linked to e-cigarette use.

If you or a family member has suffered an injury or illness related to a Juul or other e-cigarette device, please contact us right away for a free consultation. We want to pursue justice and the potential for compensation on your behalf

Is there an age limit for a Juul lawsuit?

Can I file a claim on behalf of my child?

You can. If you are the parent or legal guardian of a child or teen who has become addicted to nicotine because of their Juul use, you have the right to file a lawsuit on their behalf.
