Bill is an accomplished complex commercial trial lawyer with more than three decades of experience handling high-stakes litigation and achieving numerous seven- and eight-figure verdicts and settlements for his clients. He is widely regarded throughout Alabama—and particularly in the Mobile legal community—for his disciplined approach to advocacy, deep strategic insight, and unwavering commitment to excellence in client service.
Bill earned his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1985 before beginning a distinguished military career as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. During five years of active duty, he served in multiple demanding assignments and completed the Army’s elite Airborne, Ranger, and Long-Range Surveillance Unit (LRSU) schools—training that instilled in him the leadership, preparation, and decisiveness that continue to define his legal practice.
Following his military service, Bill earned his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law in 1993 and returned to Mobile to begin what would become a 32-year career at a firm that ultimately merged with Burr & Forman LLP, one of the largest law firms in the Southeast. As a partner at Burr & Forman, Bill concentrated his practice on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on construction. He also litigates business disputes, and real estate matters. He served in key leadership roles, including as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Managing Partner of the Mobile office, helping guide the firm’s strategic growth while maintaining an active law practice.
Throughout his career, Bill has been deeply engaged in the broader legal profession. He has held leadership positions in prominent organizations such as the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute, where he served for three years as National Chair of the Construction Law Committee. He is a frequent author and speaker on legal topics at the local, state, and national levels and has been consistently recognized for his professional excellence, including being named in The Best Lawyers in America® and an AV rating with Martindale Hubbel.
Among his proudest professional accomplishments is the culture he helped cultivate at Burr & Forman—building and mentoring a team of exceptional trial lawyers and administrative professionals united by a shared commitment to delivering the highest caliber of legal service.
In parallel with his civilian legal career, Bill continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves and later the National Guard. In 2017, he deployed to the Middle East as a Judge Advocate General for the Special Operations Joint Task Force in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, the international counter-ISIS mission—further reinforcing his lifelong dedication to service, leadership, and mission-driven work.
In 2025, Bill retired from Burr & Forman and joined Taylor Martino Rowan, where he supports the firm’s complex litigation practice and serves as a mediator and arbitrator. His transition reflects a shared philosophy with the firm: that successful advocacy requires an intense time commitment, disciplined preparation, collaborative problem-solving, and a business-minded focus on achieving practical, lasting results for clients.
Bill’s approach aligns seamlessly with Taylor Martino’s commitment to pairing exceptional legal skill with thoughtful strategy and genuine partnership. Outside of his professional life, Bill has been married to his wife, Paula, since 1986. They have two adult children and, at present, two granddaughters—who are convinced that their grandfather is “amazing,” a distinction Bill considers his most meaningful honor.
